Payments glossary

What is hosted checkout?

Hosted checkout is a payment page run by a payments provider or platform that a merchant redirects customers to, instead of building its own checkout form.

It reduces development work and keeps card data off the merchant's servers, which usually narrows PCI DSS scope.

The merchant creates a checkout session on its server, which fixes the amount, and redirects the customer to the session URL.
