What is a Shared Payment Token (SPT)?
A shared payment token is a payment provider credential an AI agent obtains from a buyer's wallet that lets one specific seller charge the buyer's payment method, up to a set amount, before it expires.
The agent asks for the token, scoped to the seller's provider profile, with a currency, maximum amount and expiry. The seller creates the payment with the token; the card details are never shared with the agent or the seller.
Tokens are single-use unless the agent allows repeat charges, and the agent can revoke them. Shared payment tokens are a provider preview feature, available in the US, Canada and select European countries.
How it works in Allidian
In Allidian, merchants pass the token to POST /api/v1/agent_payments. We check it against its limits and the merchant's own cap, then charge it on the merchant's own provider account.
