Payments glossary

What is a network token?

A network token is a substitute card number issued by a card network such as Visa or Mastercard, used in place of the real card number and tied to a specific merchant or device.

Because the network can keep network tokens current when a card is reissued, they can reduce failed payments for saved cards. Card networks also use network tokens in their agent payment programs.

How it works in Allidian

Whether network tokens are used for a payment is managed by the merchant's payment provider. Allidian never sees card numbers or network token numbers.
