Payments glossary

What is a payment gateway?

A payment gateway is the technology that securely sends a customer's payment details from a website or app to the payment processor and returns the result.

The gateway handles the online part of a card payment: collecting payment details through secure fields, passing them to the processor for authorization, and reporting whether the payment succeeded.

Many modern providers bundle the gateway and processor into one service.

How it works in Allidian

Allidian is not a gateway itself. Its checkout uses the secure payment components of your matched provider, which acts as the gateway and processor.

The future of payments is connected.
